2017 started with a bang! first trip of the year and I was back home after a long stint of no travel. In the past new months I not only craved a good home cooked meal but also all the street food and I was dying to try the food at the cities newly opened restaurants. Here’s my food highlights of the best the city had to offer this trip.
Home cooked –
The humble Bombay Biryani
You cannot visit Mumbai and not try its biryani. Bombay Biryani Is special coz its got its own version, one that has fried potatoes in it.
Small joys come in big massive dishes. This 5 kilo vessel of biryani 😂 makes me so happy coz it means the whole family is here to dine together. Fried Bombay Ducks
Marinated with Chilli powder, Turmeric powder, Salt, Vinegar & lemon juice. Then coated in semolina and fried until crispy.
🐠🐟🐠 BOMBAY DUCK – A fish native to the Indo Pacific region and particularly found in the costal waters of Maharashtra a state that the city Bombay falls within. This stack of fresh catch are cleaned and ready to be spiced and fried for lunch. Bombay Duck – despite its name is not a duck but a lizardfish.
I am checking off another box on my list of #ToEats today. I love fish so much that my mum used to tell me that I need to marry a fisherman. I found myself a seafaring Dutchie but one that hates fish 😂

Chutney Prep :
1 cup coriander leaves
1/2 cup mint leaves
4 fresh green chillies ( add more for spice )
1 tsp salt
4 tbsp fresh grated coconut 🌴 (Optional)
juice of 1/2 🍋. This is perfect to serve with samosa’s or kebabs too. All you have to do is minus the coconut from the recipe. Another nostalgic snack. My mum would pack these into our school lunch boxes or have them ready for us to eat after we got back from early evening playtime. 👍🏽

India’s connection with Iran previously known as Persia continues with our love for #IraniCafes and its food. Lastnight this place dished out stellar food which was authentic to its core. Often the city has seen places open its doors with more attention to detail to the interiors than the food. @sbowindia is on point with its interiors, food, service and ambience. The perfect Parsi addition to the suburbs of Mumbai.
Must Try – Berry Pulao / Sali Mutton & Dhansak ( a dish made with lentil and meat )
The Art Of Plating
Loved the presentation @out_of_the_blue_restaurant This is another old restaurant that has been recently renovated and has see a change in management & Chef. Its been a while I saw some decent crockery dished out in mumbai. Presentation is half the work done and this did it for me. Food was great however the best thing about this place is the set up and ambience. Tucked away from the busy street its nice and quite. A little foodie oasis however do not expect exceptional service. The staff are sadly a bit lost and need lots of direction.
