Saying goodbye to friends is never easy. Our lives as expats here in the sand land maybe short lived but friendships I know will last forever. Today I went to yet another farewell lunch which makes me really sad but I’m also just happy for my friend who is leaving the country to move in a direction that helps him achieve his goals. I asked him to pick a place as it was to be one of his last meals in the city and so after dining at La Spiga at the W last night he chose – Papermoon by La Spiga. Well clearly he loves Italian food and loves the La Spiga chain of restaurants.
We got there around 1:30 pm and the place was packed with smartly dressed professionals enjoying a lovely lunch break I presume. We opted for the business lunch too as time was short on hand and he obviously had tons of chores yet to do, places to be and people to see.
Here’s the business lunch menu which to me offers a great deal for either 70 or 89 QAR depending on if you opt for a 2 or 3 course meal.
I had the crispy polenta with mushroom & prawns which was an interesting combination for a starter and my friend had the creamy yet light pumpkin soup.
Our mains were great too I opted for the Fusilli with calamari & black olives while he opted for the homemade fettucini with turkey ham, mushroom, tomato sauce and a touch of cream. Both dishes were just lovely, mine simple and light while his was meaty and heavier.
Note Papermoon has also started a special panini menu. I was tempted to order one instead but decided to skip the carb diet. Also we were told by our well trained and informed staff that the business menu is changed weekly so as to give the regular diner a variety of choices and keeps the menu and restaurant concept fresh. Also with the perfect winter weather the terrace is now open all through the day.
We enjoyed the quick lunch session and certainly left the place with both heavy hearts and a heavy tummy.
Bon Appetit! & Bon Voyage!
