The countdown to one of the most awaited festivals of the year has officially begun. Qatar International Food Festival is a significant event to the deserts residents who otherwise indulge almost 90% of free time round the year in socializing over food. The festival is considered the mecca to local foodies and brings together close to 17,000 people to indulge in their love for all things edible. This years food festival focuses on 2 major areas, the first being healthy eating and second to celebrate the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture.The festival promises to be bigger and better! Here’s a breakdown of what you could expect starting 9:30 am on the 22nd of March 2016.
Qatar International Food Festival 2016 www.qifoodfestival.com will be held for a week long from 22nd to 28th of March. It is a gastronomic event that will showcase the best cuisine & culinary skills of many of Doha’s top chefs and celebrity cookery experts from around the world.
The Pearl-Qatar and Katara Cultural Village joins the MIA as a new extension to the Festival.
12 food trucks to feature from the region and Doha as part of the QIFF satellite experience in The Pearl-Qatar.
The Cuisine Court will include fine-dining creations by chefs from the country’s hotels, at prices ranging between 5-35 QAR.
In celebration of the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture Chinese and Qatari cuisine will come together at The Culture Court.
A new area called Market Court will have delicacies and special ingredients on sale.
#QIFF aims to focus on healthy eating with the introduction of a large Health Court offering organic food and access to stations where visitors can receive a medical check and advice on how to take up a healthier lifestyle.
Katara Cultural Village will host a cooking theatre and an entertainment zone planned on the Village’s beach area.
Water taxis will be available to transport visitors between the different location.
Water Court will include festival favourites as always – Barbeque on the Bay by the Diplomatic Club and Dinner on a Dhow by Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels.
The Pearl-Qatar to host festival’s activities on the Lido Venezia Beach in Qanat Quartier. Also enjoy sports activities & an entertainment stage.
New working hours this year, extending its opening times from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm for school visits held in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The festival will open to the public between 1:00 pm and 10:30 pm.
The High Tea in the Bay area, catered by Katara Hospitality will include a double-deck tent with a shaded terrace offering stunning views of the entire festival, as well as, English, Chinese and Arabic tea on offer throughout the Festival.
The InstaMarket will be filled with kiosks from top Qatar-based entrepreneurs who are active on Instagram, preparing dishes live in front of visitors.
A Taste of Business Class (Dinner in the Sky) by Qatar Airways. 5 course meal with a bride eye view of the city.
Celebrity Chefs including cooking star Martha Stewart.
New entertainment experiences planned this year, designed for the whole family. Singers, as well as regional and international music bands, will take part in the festival’s
entertainment shows, which can be attended free of charge by all visitors.
